For each Consequence (and for each Hazard), define its Safeguard(s):
Click on the Safeguard card next to the Consequence (and Severity).

Enter a description for the Safeguard. You can just click on the card and start typing. Take note that this is a required field.
You can use “Intelligent Text Recognition” to add Equipment to the card. Just start typing the Equipment name in the description field and click <Ctrl> + <Space>. The selected Equipment will be added to the card, but it will also be added as a link in the description field.
Click the fold-out bar.

Select the Safeguard Type. Note: The Type will be displayed on the card: CB (Control Barrier), or RM (Recovery Measure), or CM (Conditional Modifier).
Select the Category, e.g., “Alarms”.
Select the applicable Classes: P (People) and/or A (Asset) and/or C (Community) and/or E (Environment).Take note that the categories highlighted in blue are selected.
If there are Safety Critical Elements select the relevant Equipment. Or click + to create a new Equipment. Note: The SCEs are summarized on the Safety Critical Elements Tab.

If Not Valid, or Partially Valid, check the box and write a Justification. This can also be done when Consequences are linked to indicate that a Safeguard does not apply to both Cause-Consequence combinations.
If a Safeguard Type: "Control Barrier" of Category: "SIF Analysis as Barrier" or “SIF“ has been selected, you can select or create a new SIF Analysis. Click SIF Analysis to do so.

Add P&ID/PEFS by clicking P&ID/PEFDS and then SEARCH FOR DRAWINGS or UPLOAD a new drawing. Note: All the added Drawings are also shown on the Documents Tab. More documents can also be added from here.
Click X to close the details window.
Linking Safeguards to Existing Barriers
If desired, instead of defining the Safeguard from scratch you can link it to an Existing Barrier that is already being used in a LOPA. Note: This can also be done at a later stage when the Barrier is defined in more detail, e.g., during LOPA creation.
Linking from the Safeguard Card
To make the link from the Safeguard card:
Click Link Barrier.
Select a Barrier.Click OK.
After a Safeguard is linked to a Existing Barrier, the Barrier name will be displayed on the Safeguard card. The P-A-C-E Classes selection will come from the Existing Barrier and can no longer be edited in the HAZOP. Validity, however, is set on the Safeguard and is not inherited from the linked Barrier, since Validity will be specific to the HAZOP configuration. If a LOPA is created from the HAZOP Consequence, the Barrier Validity in that LOPA and the Safeguard Validity in the HAZOP will be synced, since that LOPA and this HAZOP will have the same configuration. All other information, including the P-A-C-E selection, will be synchronized between the Existing Barrier and the Safeguard.
To remove the link click X.

Linking Barriers from the Safeguard Status tab
The Safeguards can also be linked to Existing Barriers via the Safeguards Status tab. This may be a more efficient approach.
Linking the Barrier when a LOPA is created
The Safeguard can also be linked to an Existing Barrier when the LOPA is created.
Adding / Copying / Pasting / Deleting Safeguards
You can add an additional Safeguard for the Consequence, but only when the first Existing safeguards have been defined.
Use the buttons in the Toolbar or the keyboard shortcuts to Add / Copy / Paste / Delete Safeguards.
