The 3D Observation and Observation Scan modules in IMS allows for: - The import of images & Point Clouds into IMS (Observation Scan). - The detection of integrity issues (e.g., insulation defects, external corrosion) by making use of Machine Vision and the AIR (Autonomous Integrity Recognition) algorithm (Observation Scan). - The mapping of Observation-Items to 3D models & Equipment in IMS. - The review of 3D Observation-Items (3D Observation). ![](https://cdn.document360.io/e492a0e0-a4ba-4aca-8fc6-76b95f91fdf3/Images/Documentation/AIR3D Observation Process - Cenosco primary blue.png?sv=2026-02-06&spr=https&st=2026-10-28T14%3A58%3A33Z&se=2026-10-28T15%3A58%3A33Z&sr=c&sp=r&sig=ZXh%2ByBJmIsOdR0zIxauRjhglAVNxfEHx65nqlfbyqbs%3D) ![](https://cdn.document360.io/e492a0e0-a4ba-4aca-8fc6-76b95f91fdf3/Images/Documentation/image-1737628806203.png?sv=2026-02-06&spr=https&st=2026-10-28T14%3A58%3A33Z&se=2026-10-28T15%3A58%3A33Z&sr=c&sp=r&sig=ZXh%2ByBJmIsOdR0zIxauRjhglAVNxfEHx65nqlfbyqbs%3D) 3D Observation Main Screen. ## 3D Tools Software Considerations Rendering 3D Models requires significant resources in terms of RAM and CPU capacity and can have a negative impact on the performance and responsiveness of web browsers. The sections below outline some of the steps you can take to ensure that IMS’s 3D Tools remain responsive. ### 3D Model Limitations In general, the fewer objects in a 3D model that are rendered, the faster the rendering process will be. Loading a large number of objects can cause stuttering in the display, slow performance, and can even exceed browser RAM usage limits, causing crashes and instability. To avoid these issues, large 3D Models should be divided into multiple smaller model areas, with each model area containing at most 25,000 objects. ### Web Browser Limitations To ensure that the performance of your web browser remains acceptable, the following items should be avoided when using the 3D Tools in IMS: - Loading more than 2 Model Areas at one time. - Loading more than 1 Reality Mesh area. - Loading high density Point Clouds for volumes greater than 5 m3. - Loading very large, low density Point Clouds (covering more than 10,000 m2). - Creating 3D Observation projects with more than 2000 3D Observation Boxes.
