Application Codes consists of 11 characters for valves and 4 characters for all other component groups. These characters describe the materials and service requirements for a Component. Specifically, the digits describe the following characteristics: | Digit | Characteristic | | --- | --- | | 1 | Type of Material (e.g. stainless, carbon steel, low alloy) | | 2 | Grade of Material (e.g. SS304, SS316, SS347 stabilized Heat Treated) | | 3 | Service (e.g. normal, sour) | | 4 | Product Form (now contained within the Short Name) | | 5-11 | Used for Valves | ## Adding an Application Code to a Component To add an Application Code to a Component: - Open the [Details Page for a Component](/v414/docs/caps2025-details-pages) by clicking on it in the Component Main Grid. - Navigate to the **Application** section and click **+**. ![](https://cdn.document360.io/e492a0e0-a4ba-4aca-8fc6-76b95f91fdf3/Images/Documentation/image-AYRNUNP9.png?sv=2026-02-06&spr=https&st=2026-10-28T15%3A57%3A25Z&se=2026-10-28T16%3A57%3A25Z&sr=c&sp=r&sig=5pWEiJPI0tnnPbgQM3XH%2Bo8IQQ8JUhs6Lpv3uwN2KyE%3D)Click **+** to add a new Application Code. - Click **Add Character** in the **New Application** dialog. ![](https://cdn.document360.io/e492a0e0-a4ba-4aca-8fc6-76b95f91fdf3/Images/Documentation/image-YXGEEB1M.png?sv=2026-02-06&spr=https&st=2026-10-28T15%3A57%3A25Z&se=2026-10-28T16%3A57%3A25Z&sr=c&sp=r&sig=5pWEiJPI0tnnPbgQM3XH%2Bo8IQQ8JUhs6Lpv3uwN2KyE%3D)Click Add Character. - Click **Select Character Type Item** in the **Selection for Character 1** dialog. ![](https://cdn.document360.io/e492a0e0-a4ba-4aca-8fc6-76b95f91fdf3/Images/Documentation/image-GRCZW5EG.png?sv=2026-02-06&spr=https&st=2026-10-28T15%3A57%3A25Z&se=2026-10-28T16%3A57%3A25Z&sr=c&sp=r&sig=5pWEiJPI0tnnPbgQM3XH%2Bo8IQQ8JUhs6Lpv3uwN2KyE%3D)Click **Select Character Type Item.** - Continue to follow the prompts until all applicable characters have been filled out. - When you have selected all of Characters, click **Save**. You will be returned to the Component Details page and the new Application Code will be displayed in the Application grid list. > [!NOTE] > Note > > If a value is null or does not exist, the character used will be ā€œNā€ (Normal).
