Defined there are the Component Group and Product Group Tables. ![](https://cdn.document360.io/e492a0e0-a4ba-4aca-8fc6-76b95f91fdf3/Images/Documentation/image-POJM864B.png?sv=2026-02-06&spr=https&st=2026-10-28T15%3A59%3A14Z&se=2026-10-28T16%3A59%3A14Z&sr=c&sp=r&sig=w3lQmRtyQnxMkeF1khj7NpobyOAPY3kQ%2FBLNYxWU1O4%3D) ## Setup for Short Name Characters The following sections describe the proces of setting up CAPS2025 to assign the appropriate characters to the Short Name. ### Short Name characters 1 and 2 Depending on the Schema, Character 2 can be defined in two ways: 1. Format (Noun_modifier) table. 2. Format Position Character Value Table and Format Position, Character Value and Character Type Item. > [!NOTE] > Note > > Only one product group assigned to a Noun_Modifier can define a Short name and Application code schema if configured in Settings / Maintenance / CMT Common Data / Short Name Position Sequence. > > > > Users can choose which one to configure and use as a schema, and users can even create a generic one. Using the same product group for the same component group is essential. ![](https://cdn.document360.io/e492a0e0-a4ba-4aca-8fc6-76b95f91fdf3/Images/Documentation/image-FBPXI2UW.png?sv=2026-02-06&spr=https&st=2026-10-28T15%3A59%3A14Z&se=2026-10-28T16%3A59%3A14Z&sr=c&sp=r&sig=w3lQmRtyQnxMkeF1khj7NpobyOAPY3kQ%2FBLNYxWU1O4%3D) Format Tables for Piston Type Check Valves. ### Short Name Characters 3, 4 and 5 Characters 3,4, and 5 are defined in the Format Position Character Value table and Format Position, Character Value and Character Type Item table. ## Setup for Application Code Characters Characters 1 - 8 of the Application Code (Characters 8-16 of CAPS Code) are defined in format Position Character Value table and Format Position, Character Value and Character Type Item table. ### Setup of Specific Characters for Short Name and Application Codes The sequence for a particular attribute/spec must be defined in the Short Name Position Sequence table. After that, the value setup via the main Format table can be config in two ways: 1. A character can be defined by one or more Attribute/Spec. 2. One or more possible values can define one Attribute/Spec. ![](https://cdn.document360.io/e492a0e0-a4ba-4aca-8fc6-76b95f91fdf3/Images/Documentation/image-VQ9NYAD7.png?sv=2026-02-06&spr=https&st=2026-10-28T15%3A59%3A14Z&se=2026-10-28T16%3A59%3A14Z&sr=c&sp=r&sig=w3lQmRtyQnxMkeF1khj7NpobyOAPY3kQ%2FBLNYxWU1O4%3D) ### Application Code Character Settings The number of characters used to construct the Application Code can be modified on a site-by-site basis through CAPS2025’s settings. Typically, use 11 characters for an application code and all other components use 4 characters, however, any component group can be allowed to use 11 characters. To change the required number of characters for an Application Code from 4 to 11: - Open the Settings Menu by clicking **Settings** at the top of your main screen. - Navigate to **Maintenance** → **Configuration → Application Settings**. - Click on the *Edit* icon to open **Valve configuration per company** application setting. ![](https://cdn.document360.io/e492a0e0-a4ba-4aca-8fc6-76b95f91fdf3/Images/Documentation/image-0W7943MU.png?sv=2026-02-06&spr=https&st=2026-10-28T15%3A59%3A14Z&se=2026-10-28T16%3A59%3A14Z&sr=c&sp=r&sig=w3lQmRtyQnxMkeF1khj7NpobyOAPY3kQ%2FBLNYxWU1O4%3D) Change the Number of Characters required for an Application Code. - Click **JSON** to open the JSON editor. ![](https://cdn.document360.io/e492a0e0-a4ba-4aca-8fc6-76b95f91fdf3/Images/Documentation/image-07LP3SG0.png?sv=2026-02-06&spr=https&st=2026-10-28T15%3A59%3A14Z&se=2026-10-28T16%3A59%3A14Z&sr=c&sp=r&sig=w3lQmRtyQnxMkeF1khj7NpobyOAPY3kQ%2FBLNYxWU1O4%3D) Add Company Code and Component Group. - Click **+**. A new blank row will be added to the list of objects. - Enter the Company Code (see **Settings → Maintenance → Common Data → Companies** to find Company Codes) in the first field and the Component Group code (e.g. VS for valves) in the second field. - Click **Save and Close**.
