DataIntegrity - Component Materials

Article summary

The Component Materials section of the DataIntegrity Dashboard lists all Components have any of the below listed issues with material set.

Reasons as to why this situation may occur are varied:

  1. Legacy data issues and leftover issues after material mapping and remapping.
  2. Software defects that may for a limited time duration allow created on misaligned data.

How to work with the Dashboard

The Dashboard section Component Materials breaks the data down based on the Material Status and Component Active state. (L) designates legacy Components. Ideally, all these counts should be zero. The idea is to give the user a chance to review the Component materials in question and correct the material alignment issues.

Material Status

The Material Status indicates one of the below listed potential issues with the Component material.

  1. Not set - The Component in question does not have a Material selected.
  2. Expired - The Component in question has an expired Material selected. This might be valid legacy data.
  3. Multiple set - The Component in question has multiple Materials selected.
  4. Multiple set, expired - The Component in question has multiple Materials selected, at least on of which is expired.

The first two issues can be simply resolved by the user by using the Component import function. The two remaining issues are also resolvable by the user, however resolution would require quite a lot of manual labor as Component specs would need to be edited for each Component individually, after which the redundant Component materials would need to be deselected and then have the specs saved. We suggest that the user provide an export file to support in which it should be clearly denoted which Material(s) should be removed.

Using the Custom Query for Checking

You can open the custom Query by clicking the count for the category of interest in the Dashboard.

If we check the first three Components from this list, we can see that the first Component does not have a Material set.

The second Component has an expired Material selected.

The third Component has three Materials set, as shown by the Query. Looking at the Component details, we can see that only the first material is shown there, however the Component specs are listing all three of them.
