Deletion & Retirement (SIS Object Lifecycle Management)

Prev Next

A structured, role-based system governs the deletion of SIS objects and also the retirement of HAZOP, LOPA, and SIF Analysis objects. These rules ensure the preservation of historical data integrity and traceability.

Role-Based Permissions

Only users with authorized roles can delete or retire objects (see SIS User Roles).

Only SIS Admin users can unretire objects.

Deletion Rules

General deletion rules

An object with no previously Final Approved version can be deleted if it has no connections (e.g., SIF Analysis, LOPA, HAZOP, FLOC, or Equipment).

FLOC and Equipment deletion rule

IMS can be interfaced with a CMMS (such as SAP). In such a case the CMMS will be the master in terms of FLOCs and Equipment. For this reason additional rules will apply to FLOCs and Equipment:

  • When a FLOC or Equipment is not linked to a CMMS, it can be deleted if it has no connections (SIF Analysis, LOPA, HAZOP, FLOC, or Equipment).

  • When linked to a CMMS, FLOCs and Equipment can only be made inactive.

Actor Equipment deletion rule

  • Actor Equipment can only be deleted if it has no connections to other objects (except Equipment).

  • If already connected, the Actor Equipment is set to inactive instead of being deleted.

  • Any changes to Actor Equipment linked to a Final Approved SIF will automatically set the SIF status to Draft.

  • The default filter on the Equipment Details Page displays only active Actor Equipment.

Retirement Rules

HAZOPs, LOPAs and SIF Analyses can be retired (and unretired) based on a number of rules.

Retirement and Unretirement Steps

To retire (or unretire) multiple objects:

  • Go to the Main Screen grid list.

  • Select the desired objects. Note: When unretiring an object, ensure inactive objects are visible, since retired objects are inactive and may be hidden by filters.

  • Click the Retire or Unretire button.

  • Confirm that the correct objects are selected and click Retire (or Unretire) in the pop-up. Note: If an active object with the same name exists, unretiring is blocked. You’ll be prompted to rename the retired object, and all associated retired revisions will be updated automatically.

  • Enter a reason.

  • Click Save.

Note that all actions are logged in the Event History, including user, date, and reason.

A single object can also be retired form it’s Details Page. To do so:

  • Go to the object’s Details Page.

  • Click the Retire or Unretire button.

Behavior for Retired Objects

  • A retired object becomes inactive.

  • Active objects cannot link to or use retired objects. For example, a LOPA cannot link to a retired SIF.

Lifecycle Status

  • A read-only Lifecycle Status (LS) field is displayed in both the object’s Details Page and the Main Screen grid.

  • This field reflects the object’s review / retirement status.

  • Users can filter objects in the Main Screen grid by Lifecycle Status.

The below table compares an object’s Lifecycle Status (LS) with its Review Status (RS).

Retirement results

The retirement of an object can have a different result depending on the object that is being retired.

HAZOP retirement results

Retiring a HAZOP will:

  • Set the HAZOP to Inactive and Draft.

  • Any LOPAs that were connected to the HAZOP will be disconnected.

  • The LOPAs remain Approved, but are marked as Out of Sync.

  • In the retired Draft HAZOP, LOPA hyperlinks are replaced with plain text.

LOPA retirement results

Retiring a LOPA will:

  • Set the LOPA to inactive and Draft.

  • Any SIFs connected to the LOPA will be disconnected.

  • The SIFs are set to Draft Review status.

  • The previously linked HAZOP will show out of sync and the link to the LOPA is removed after taking it back to Draft.

  • In the retired Draft LOPA, SIF hyperlinks are replaced with plain text.

  • In the retired Draft LOPA, the HAZOP hyperlinks are replaced with text.

After unretiring the LOPA, you can restore the SIF links and recalculate the LOPA.

SIF Analysis retirement results

Retiring a standalone SIF will:

  • Cause no change to its review status, i.e., it does not go back to Draft if already approved.

  • The SIF Analysis becomes inactive.

  • Related HAZOPs will be marked Out of Sync.

  • During the next HAZOP sync, retired SIFs are removed from the HAZOP.

Retiring a SIF connected to a LOPA is not possible:

  • A notification prompts the user to manually disconnect the LOPA from the SIF.

  • Only after it is disconnected can the SIF Analysis be retired. (Removing the SIF Analysis from the LOPA will cause the SIF Analysis to go into Draft.)
