Civil Consequence Examples (Step 6)
Find below additional details for Step 6 of the Civil RBI Methodology.
The health & safety and environmental consequences are monetarized using the logarithmic average of the corresponding economic consequence class to determine a representative total consequence cost in terms of money.
The logarithmic average of the range 100k – 1M USD is calculated as follows:
10LOG (100,000) = 5
10LOG (1,000,000) =6
The average is 5.5.
The logarithmic average is 10^5.5 = 316,227, which is rounded to 300k USDThe most severe consequence class from these categories is the governing failure consequence and the cumulative (monetarized) cost of the three categories is the total failure cost. Note that the consequence score will in most cases remain the same throughout the lifetime of the asset, but in some instances the consequence may increase or decrease during the lifetime, which should be evaluated as part of the Living Program.
