Interface Blockers - 5 Rules

There are several reasons why CMMS Type updates that are coming through the interface will not be allowed in IMS automatically. The design is intended to prevent any possible conflict with any data that already exists in IMS. How to override?

CMMS Type updates may be blocked due to one of the following 5 rules:

Methodology Reduced

The new CMMS Type does not include all Disciplines as is the case with the existing CMMS Type. This would mean that the automatic update would make the Equipment not available in certain methodologies.

Equipment Group Changed

The new CMMS Type would have to trigger an Equipment Group change (to maintain alignment) and: 

• The Equipment and FLOC have Specs, or 
• The FLOC has other Equipment, or
• The Equipment has Components of a Component Type incompatible with the new Equipment Group.

RBI Compatibility

• The Equipment has RBI analyses performed with one or more Degradation Mechanisms that are not available for the new Equipment Group. For example, DL, IP, or MP Analysis or Soil Corrosion on PIPE-UG.
• The Assessment of the Component is not valid for the new Equipment Group. For example, different Analysis Surveys for the same Degradation Mechanism.

RCM FM Compatibility

The Equipment has an RCM analysis where the Failure Mode is not compatible with the new CMMS Type. RCM has a CMSS Type dependent configuration for Failure Modes.

RSL Usage

The Equipment has an RCM analysis that is linked to an RSL that is not compatible with the new CMMS Type.

Manual override

Blocked CMMS Type updates are left to the Inspector to assess the situation and apply the update where needed. Please review the above notes for the expected consequences of manually updating the CMMS Type and possibly the Equipment Group. Certain conditions have to be met for manual updates to be possible:

Required Conditions

To be able to update the CMMS Type the Inspector must have an appropriate role. Discipline Inspector will also need to have the appropriate discipline. In the following example, since the Equipment group is owned by PEI, an appropriate PEI role will be required. Discipline Inspector will also require PEI disciplines.

In this scenario two common roles are allowed to make updates: Insp Admin and Insp General. However, note that the Insp General role, depending on the site configuration, may not be allowed to perform updates on a CMMS interfaced site. In such scenarios, the Hierarchy role may be more applicable.

In an equivalent scenario in RCM, RCM Admin and RCM Custodian roles can be used respectively. However, similar limitations may apply in the RCM Custodian role, which may not be allowed to update the CMMS Type and Equipment Group on CMMS interfaced sites.
