Article summary

lopa-tab-image-b9nkabsxThis LOPA tab is used to do the actual the Layer of Protection Analysis (LOPA). Here you can define Initiating Events (and Frequencies), as well as the Barriers (and PFDs). Then you can calculate and evaluate the Overall SIL to determine the adequacy of the existing or proposed Barriers against the Hazard Scenario.

The LOPA tab (see image below) shows the following:

  1. The Assessment Summary shows the Consequence Categories with associated Severities and the calculated Safety Integrity Levels (SILs). See Assessment Summary.
  2. If the Consequence is associated with a HAZOP, the information from the HAZOP will show here, e.g., HAZOP name (hyperlink), Consequence name (hyperlink), Consequence Description, and ALARP notes.
  3. The Toolbar. It is related to the Initiating Events and Barriers.  For more information on the functions see Toolbar. These functions also have associated shortcut keys.
  4. The Initiating Events (and their Frequencies). See Defining Initiating Events.
  5. The Barriers and their PFDs. See Defining Barriers.
