Article summary

How: RSL Care Strategies provide decision logic on RSLs where based on Floc and Eq data, e.g. Specs, tasks can be applied, or not.

Floc and Eq specs

On Flocs and Equipment Specs can be available, some Specs originate from SAP, for instance via a data-interface, some Specs can be imported in IMS.
Below picture show an example of the spec 'ECS OVERHAUL REPLACEMENT' on the valves 13LCV010 and 13LCV011, with the data: 13LCV010: YES - 13LCV011; NO

Specs can be entered manually - one-by-one - or via an Export-for-Import::

Note that as there can be various Specs relevant for the different Location types and Equipment groups, in the Export-for-Import wizard there is a sub-step to select the relevant set of Specs. As such it might work better - to limit the vairation in Location types and Equipment groups, for each Export-for-import:

With insight in the available Specs, we recommend to set up a story-line from the Location type/ Equipment group, to the relevant FM's and to the applicable maintenance tasks.
The objective is to get a line of sight what the effect of the different Specs might be on the FM scenario and on the various applicable tasks.

Effect of Spec on FM and Tasks

Herewith an example for a Control valve with Failure Mode: Actuator Failure.
If we consider intense time base degradation of the actuator, we indicate that we like to do Cleaning and Storke test every 4 years.
If we consider minor degradation of the actuator, we indicate that we like to do Cleaning and Storke test every 10 years.

Using the ECS OVERHAUl REPLACEMENT Spec, we can steer the 4 yr tasks on a 'YES' and the 10 yr tasks on a 'NO'.

Set up Selective RSL

With insight in the tasks involved the RSL can be created, with the tasks involved:

In the RSl we can create the first Strategy: 'Time Based Degradation High':

With the strategy created in the RSL we can [Edit ] it - and select tasks:

For the selected tasks the Strategy requirements can be set up, for the relevant Spec: ECS OVERHAUl REPLACEMENT = YES

After saving, the 'Minor degradation case of the actuator' can be added as second Strategy to the Selective RSL by [+] and selecting the tasks involved:

Note:

In the logic used- and selection of Spec variables, you can select, what should be in, or what NOT should be in:

Finally the RSL should be Approved for actual use, where the data cannot be editted anymore:

Assign Flocs to the Strategy

To assign Flocs (or Eq) to the Strategy a 'Bulk Assign to Strategy' wizard is available:

Assign to strategy 1.png

In this example we use the Control valve Flocs 13LCV010/-11/-12 as used above, where 13LCV012 has no Spec data - to illustrate the effect of that.
The new Bulk Assign also includes assignment to a System, Function and Functional Failures.

In the Next step the decison logic becomes active.
On 13LCV010 we see that the ECS OVERHAUl REPLACEMENT Spec = YES connects to the 'TB degradation high'
On 13LCV011 we see that the ECS OVERHAUl REPLACEMENT Spec = NO connects to the 'TB degradation low'
On 13LCV012 we see there is no Spec - so the RSL is not selected.

A warning pops up in case multiple Functional failures are availabe - to connect from the RSL Strategy to a (1) Functional Failure (FF).

Note

In case of multiple FM's - all will be connected to one Functional
Failure. In the System FM's can be moved easily from one FF to another FF

After the FF's are selected Labels can be asdded, and the Assignment action can be reviewed.

In the end the RSL and Strategies are Assigned toe the Flocs 13LCV010/-11:

From the Selective RSL these 6 tasks are created:

Note:

During the Buk Assignment Strategy process, the individual 'to be asigned' tasks can be viewed, when the strategy is selected using the blue arrow:
