What?
With the combined developments of the Integrated RSL's and Selective RSL's - there is now the opportunity to do 'Speed Assign' of RSL's.
This involves a faster and easyer assignement of RSL's.
Why?
One of the time consuming aspects of assigning RSL's is the selection of the Functions and Functional Failures for the various Failure Modes.
So: by specifying a 'dedicated place' for RSL's in Systems, one might simplify the assignment process, where all the RSL's might end up in one particular Function and Functional Failure.
Such a 'short-cut' might disturb the true RCM people, although it might not be too much of a problem in the end, based on:
- As the RSL's are templates there might already be shortcuts in the RSL's causing them to realy differ from 'quality RCM analyses', with missing data in criticalities, scenario's, tasks and costs.
In the end often an MEI is neither calculated as data is missing. - A growing interest of using RSL's in practice asks for quick application where follong the 'RCM-steps' is consideed of less a priority.
This is particulary of interest in case of capital projects whith many RSL's to be assigned. - Quick assigning and re-assigning RSL's is valued more improtant, based on the assumption that when doing 'Living Program' than time is invested to get the details right by crossing the t's and dotting the i's.
- IMS-RCM has a standard functionality to move tags from one Function/Functional Failure to another. So starting in a 'common reporsitory' still allows movement to more appropriate Functions/Functional Failures later.
- In case RSL are accurately assigned to various different Functions and Functional Failures, and a reassign is needed, the process is very time consuming. Starting in an 'common repository' for RSL's in Systems, might be a good starting point afterall.
How?
Applcation of Speed Assign actually needs:
- An RSL with specification of the 'common repository' being a particular System Function and System Functional Failure is provided. This is done by specifying this repository for each FM in the 'Equipment Function' and 'Equipment Functional Failure'.
In above picture in the RSL the 'Equipment Function' and 'Equipment Functional Failure' is set to 'RSL' driving to the creation of a System Function 'RSL' and a System Functional Failure 'RSL'.
Next for all tasks involved a Mandatory Strategy should be created.
While assigning this strategy using the 'Assign to Strategy' Bulk Action, the Flocs can be assigned to a System (all selected Flocs should be relevant to the same system)
In below video (4 minutes) the assignment process is demonstrated, showing the RSL, the System (note there are no Functions neither Functional failures specified, at the start).
In below video (9 minutes) more of the steps are illustrated involved in a speed assign of RSL's:
