Article summary

The first step, after you have started your Civil RBI Analysis is to determine the Condition Status for you Component-DM combination.

Methodology

The key question here is: “What was the condition status of the Component or asset during the last inspection?”

This entails reviewing the Inspection History and crediting the applicable Degradation Mechanisms.

Condition Status

A classification of condition status as per the last inspection is applied as indicated in the table below.

More detailed guidance can be found in Civil InfoBase documents.

Condition statuses:

Concrete asset
Steel asset
Description

As Built

No signs of deterioration. The asset seems to be in a new or as-built condition.

Minor Damage

Local deterioration of protective system: paint or concrete cover. Structural integrity not deteriorated, no reduction of safety factor.

Moderate Damage

General failure of the coating or concrete cover. Deterioration of the structural integrity has set in at a significant degree or rate.

Severe damage

Coating/concrete cover has generally failed. The structural integrity is extensively deteriorated. There can be signs of distress.

Extreme damage

Structural integrity is extremely low. The signs of distress become more apparent.

Software

For more detail on the Equipment Condition History (ECH) refer to ECH - Overview.

Inspection History

An Equipment Condition History (ECH), which credits a Schedule with the RBI assessment in scope, is automatically used in the RBI inspection History. However, when a GENERAL Component was credited with the inspecting of the RBI damage mechanisms, the ECH must be Applied to the RBI Inspection History.

  • Make sure that the assessment view is expanded to show the top section.
  • Select the Inspection History tab.
  • You will see the created ECHs.
  • Select the applicable ECH.
  • Click the red Apply button.

Apply an Inspection History.

  • Credit the DM (AR or NAR) to confirm that it has been inspected.
  • Click Save.
  • RBI will now use the inspection date of this ECH as the last inspection date for the selected DM.
  • Alternatively, a new ECH can be created by clicking the ECH icon or an Inspection History can be added manually by clicking the +.
Create a new Inspection History if there is no ECH to Apply.

Visual Material
