Step 9 Determine Next Inspection Date (AR) and link to Inspection Schedule (Civil)
For Age-Related DMs a NID is calculated and it can the be assigned to an Inspection Schedule.
Methodology
Maximum Inspection Interval
The risk-based Maximum Inspection Interval (MII) is calculated as follows:
Maximum Inspection Interval = [Interval Factor x Remnant Life]
Thus, the inspection interval depends on the best estimate for the Remnant Life (RL) based on findings of the last inspection. This estimate is to be revised based on every new set of inspection data. Therefore, there is not fixed inspection interval, but it will be adjusted periodically, based on the latest inspection findings. The latest inspection provides a new last inspection date and an updated estimate for the Remnant Functional Life.
In practice this may not be immediately after every inspection, but this should not be postponed to long. For example, a monthly review cycle may be appropriate in which all inspection findings from the previous month are considered.
Next Inspection Date
The Next Inspection Date is determined taking the last inspection date as the starting point. The inspection interval is added to this last date, as illustrated in the figure.
Assign the RBI assessment to an Inspection Schedule Scope
The RBI assessment outcome can be added to the scope of an existing recurring inspection schedule. In this way the inspector will make sure to check RBI damage mechanisms during the inspection and the RBI MII/NID will become a factor in the schedule interval. Also crediting of this schedule will now automatically update your RBI inspection history, thus you will not need to Apply the ECH manually.
