LOPA Tab - Toolbar

The LOPA Tab Toolbar can be used to add Initiating Events and Barriers. Also SIFs can be added from here, and this also also from where you can start a calculation. These functions also have associated shortcut keys.

The Toolbar functions:

Add a new SIF Analysis

Add a Safety Integrity Function (SIF) Control Barrier.

Add an existing SIF Analysis

Add an existing Safety Integrity Function (SIF) Control Barrier.

Add before or after selected card

Add a SIF Control Barrier card before the selected card.

Or add a SIF Control Barrier after the selected card.

(This only shows when a Control Barrier card is selected.)

Edit selected Barrier / Initiating Event

Shortcut: 

<SHIFT> +<F2>

Use this to open the text editor and Edit the selected Card’s Description.

Delete

Shortcut: 

<Ctrl> + <Shift> + <->

Delete the selected IE or Barrier card. Take note that an IE cannot be deleted if it has a defined Barrier.

(This only shows when a card is selected.)

Calculate

Calculate the SIL levels (and Target PFD for the SIF Analysis). When a calculation is required, i.e., when data has changed, this button will be red.

Sync

Update the LOPA using data from the connected HAZOP.

This button is only shown when syncing is required. This can happen when the HAZOP (and LOPA) was Approved, and a connected HAZOP is put back into Draft mode. A warning will first tell you to put the LOPA back in Draft mode. Out of Sync elements will be indicated with . You can then sync the elements individually with , or all at once with . After being Synced, changes made to Existing safeguards in the HAZOP will be copied to connected Barriers in the LOPA, changes made to Causes in the HAZOP will be copied to connected Initiating Events in the LOPA, and changes to the Consequence and its Severity will also be copied. Also, when new related elements were created or when related elements were deleted will it reflect here in the LOPA after the syncing occurred. See Syncing HAZOPs with connected LOPAs.

Search

Type part of the description of a card to search for the associated record.

Generate LOPA report

To generate a LOPA report, click here.

Settings (Show Details, High Contrast)

When you click the Settings icon, two settings appear:

  • You can flip the axis. The Initiating Events will then be shown as columns and the Barriers as rows.
  • You can switch on the high contrast. Black cards will then be shown with white font.

Approve

When done with the LOPA study, you can Approve the LOPA from here. From here you can also put an Approved LOPA back into Edit mode.
