Article summary

The Component (and Lining) Material play and important role in RBI Analyses. Below the link is explained.

Component Material

The Material must be specified on a Component. Materials are made available from a predefined list in the IMS Settings which should provide sufficient options for all scenarios.

Materials are divided into four distinct types: Stainless Steel, Carbon Steel, Alloys, and Other. Depending on the Component Material type, the CUI Degradation Mechanism type will be selectable.

CUI selection

For example, when one of the Carbon Steel materials is selected, CUI-CS will be available for assignment.

If Stainless Steel is selected, then CUI-SS becomes available for assignment.

Take Note

If the Component Material type is changed after the CUI Degradation Mechanism has already been assigned, it is left to the engineer to review RBI Analyses and make amendments where necessary.

Material related specs

The Material is also populated under Component Specs under BASE MATL. Updates to the BASE MATL Spec and the Component Material property are interchangeable and it is expected that these two values will always be in sync.

Several more Specs can be used to describe the Component in more detail. These Specs will in return also be shown on the RBI grid, as Material, Weld Overlay Material, Lining Material, Cladding Material, and PWHT.

Lining Assessment

The selected Lining Material will also be automatically preselected for the Lining assessment.
