The System overview in IMS doesn't let you see how many FMs are recorded per Floc or Equipment. Building this view gives you that insight, and you can use it to:
Spot analyses that look too simple or too complex and may need correction.
Get a sense of what's typical, to help scope the next round of RCM work.
Support an end report and gain approval for the maintenance strategies you're proposing.
You can retrieve this data in two ways: from the Floc and Equipment grids, or from a query.
Example Output
Below is an example output, based on FLOCs and Location types. In total, 8,448 FLOCs are involved with 9,163 FMs — an average of 1.1 FM per FLOC.

From the FLOC Grid
The Floc grid shows a #FMs column, giving the number of Failure Modes per FLOC (Functional Location). Export your selection to Excel, save it under a new name, and build a pivot table from the export — general Excel tutorials cover pivot tables in more detail.
A typical pivot table setup uses:
Location Type in Rows.
Count of #FMs in Values.
#FMs in Columns.

You can also use Sum of #FMs in Values for a similar overview.

From the Equipment Grid
Similarly, you can build a table for Equipment:
