This page of the Handbook explains how to use the Map feature in PLSS.
The PLSS Map provides a spatial view of your pipeline network, showing Equipment directly on a map alongside the data already available elsewhere in IMS. Pipelines can be explored side by side with their details, opened in a new tab to keep working on them, and measured for distance directly on the map.
Enabling the Map Main Menu
Depending on your User Role, the Map option might not be enabled by default. To enable the Map Menu:
Click My Account in the top menu.
Click Edit at the top of the My Account Page.
Ensure that Map is selected in the grid on the right-hand side.
Click Save.
The Map option will now be available in the IMS Main Menu.
Map Features
The Map shows Equipment related to the PLSS module, organized into a number of Layers that can be toggled on or off to focus on the information that matters for the task at hand.
Pipelines are shown next to the map along with their details, so their relative position and condition can be reviewed at a glance.
Adding Geolocation Information to PLSS Equipment
Note
For PLSS Equipment to be visible on the Map, the Geolocation information for the Equipment must be filled in on the Equipment Details Page.

Adding Geolocation Information for a Pipeline
To add or remove Geolocation information to a Pipeline:
Navigate to the Geo location section on a Pipeline’s Equipment Details Page.
Click + to add a new point.
In the dialog that pops up, fill in the Absolute Distance, Latitude, Longitude, and Description fields.
Click Save.
Importing Geolocation Information for a Pipeline
To import Geolocation Information for a Pipeline:
Navigate to the Geo location section on a Pipeline’s Equipment Details Page.
Click the Import Wizard button in the Geo location toolbar.
Follow the Import Wizard steps to complete the import.
OR
Navigate to Settings → Data Transfer → Import Data.
Select the Geo Location option from the Pipeline section.
Select an Excel file containing the Geolocation data.
Follow the Import Wizard steps to complete the import.

Adding Geolocation Information for Equipment
For non-Pipeline Equipment to be visible on the Map, the Equipment must have Location information assigned to it in its Equipment Details.
To add Location information for non-Pipeline Equipment:
Navigate to the Equipment Details Page for a piece of Equipment.
Click Edit in the Details Header.
Fill in the Longitude and Latitude information manually, or using the map icon.
Click Save.
Opening Equipment Details Pages from Map View
Any pipeline or piece of Equipment on the map can be opened in a new tab, so a record that needs action can be worked on without losing the map view.
To open a piece of Equipment:
Select the Equipment by clicking on it in the Map view or on its name in the Equipment Tree View.
Click the Equipment name in the Details header.
Your Equipment will open in a new browser tab.
Measuring Distances in Map View
To measure the distance between two or more points on the Map:
Click on the Measure icon in the top right-hand corner of the Map.
Click on the start point and again on the point of the segment you want to measure. The distance will be displayed on the segment in the Map view.
To measure a number of contiguous or continuous segments:
Click on the Measure icon in the top right-hand corner of the Map.
Select Continuous measurement in the Measure menu.
Click on the start point, and intermediate points to generate segments with associated distance measurements.
Displaying Anomalies on the Map
Anomalies can also be visualized directly on the Map, alongside your Pipeline data. Each Anomaly is colored according to the risk legend available in the Layers section: Negligible, Low, Medium, Medium High, High, Extreme, or Unset.
This makes it easier to see at a glance where attention is needed across a pipeline network, without opening individual records.
To display Anomalies in the Map View:
Open the Map View.
Click on the PLSS Layers icon in the top right-hand corner of the Map View.
Select the Anomalies layer to display all of the Anomalies in the current view.
Anomalies can be opened by clicking on the Anomaly name in the Equipment hierarchy to the right of the map view.
