Note

This article illustrates how to add Equipment manually.

Do not create Equipment manually for Sites with an active SAP interface. In such cases, Equipment is created through the SAP interface.

Use this procedure to create new RCM Equipment in IMS.

Before creating Equipment, ensure the following:

  • The required Site, Plant, Unit, and FLOC already exist. If you need help creating a new FLOC, see Creating RCM FLOCs.

  • You have permission to create RCM hierarchy objects.

  • You know which parent hierarchy level the Equipment belongs to.

  • You know the correct Equipment Group for the Equipment.

  • You know the Correct CMMS Type for the Equipment.

Create New Equipment

You can create new Equipment:

  • manually

  • by importing multiple objects. To create Equipment in bulk, see the data import feature.

Creating Equipment Manually

You can create Equipment in several places in IMS:

  • Equipment Main Screen (Header bar)

  • FLOC Main Screen (Side info bar)

  • FLOC Details Page (Hierarchy section)

To manually create Equipment, to the following:

  1. Click to create new Equipment.

  2. In the New Equipment window, enter the required information:

  • Select the RCM Parent ID.

  • Enter the Equipment ID.

  • Select the appropriate Equipment Group.

Note

The selection of the Equipment group for the Equipment is based on the FLOC Location Type.

  • Select the appropriate CMMS Type.

  • Enter additional details, if required. For more information, see Field Descriptions.

  1. Click Save when done.

The new Equipment is created, and the Equipment details page opens.

Note

After creating a piece of Equipment, you cannot change its Equipment Group. If you selected the wrong Equipment Group, you must delete the Equipment and create a new one.

Field Descriptions

Use the following table to understand the fields available when creating Equipment.

ID of the FLOC for the new Equipment. This is auto populated based on the object from which the + button was clicked.

Hierarchy

Hierarchy path for the new Equipment: Site, Plant, Unit.

Equipment ID

Name of the Equipment, often based on a standard naming convention.

Description

Short description of the new Equipment.

Perform RCM

Select to include the Equipment in RCM analysis.

SAP Equipment Nr.

Fill in if applicable.

Equipment Group

Yes

Equipment Type of the new Equipment. The available options depend on the parent FLOC type.

Note: This is configured in Settings \ Maintenance \ Configuration \ Configuration per Hierarchy Type. Filter for Equipment groups to see all Equipment Groups, or filter for Location Types to see which Equipment groups are assigned to a specific FLOC type.

CMMS Type

Yes

The selected CMMS Type, if applicable.

System

No

Name of the System the Equipment is a part of.

Start date

No

Installation date of the Equipment.

Active

No

Indicates whether the FLOC is active.

Equipment Status

No

Equipment status definitions.

  • Retired Equipment: Equipment that has been isolated and decommissioned from the process with no plans for future use.

  • Idle in Place: Equipment that has been removed from service for a short period of time (typically less than 6 months) and planned to be recommissioned.

  • In Service: Installed and in operation.

  • In Construction: The equipment is being built and has not been placed in service yet.

  • Temp Out of Service: Equipment that will be out of service for long period of time. This tagging system is mostly used for AST that will be out of service for a while, not intended to be used for Equipment taken out of service due to a planned TA event.

Note 1: The Equipment status will influence the Schedule options.

Note 2: When the ECH of Equipment with the status Temp Out of Service is Final Approved, the Equipment Status changes to In Service.

Spare equipment

No

Search for specific spare Equipment, if applicable.

ABC Indicator

No

Criticality level of the Equipment.

Legal / local inspection / jurisdiction

No

Select if applicable.

ECS Strategy

No

Care Strategy that uses Equipment specifications (Specs) to determine whether specific maintenance tasks should be applied or not.

Manufacturer

No

Name of the Manufacturer.

Model number

No

Model Number of the Equipment.

Manufacturer Part Number

No

Model Part Number of the Equipment.

Serial Number

No

Serial Number of the Equipment.

Supplier

No

Supplier of the Equipment.

Purchase Date

No

Date of purchase.
