It has all the features of its predecessor, and several additional features to support the complete Safety Lifecycle Management process as per IEC61508 & IEC61511. As it forms part of the IMS suite, it includes all the latest features of IMS Platform as well. Version 2022.2 of IMS now official includes SIS and is thus the first official IMS SIS release. For this reason, all IMS SIS features are shortly explained in this RNs. For more information refer to the online manuals in the Handbook. --- ## HAZOP IMS SIS can be used to document Hazard & Operability (HAZOP) Studies. Like with all other IMS modules, there is a HAZOP Main Screen and Details Page. The HAZOP Main screen shows an overview grid, with a list of HAZOPs. The Details Page is where the HAZOP is documented, Node for Node. ### Hazards & Effects Register (HER) IMS SIS comes with a built in Hazards & Effects Register that can be modified to customer or project needs to suit any HAZOP study. From the settings menu this Hazards & Effects Register can be accessed and modified or amended. ![A screenshot of a computer Description automatically generated with medium confidence](https://cdn.document360.io/e492a0e0-a4ba-4aca-8fc6-76b95f91fdf3/Images/Documentation/sis-release-2022.2-image-wz9jl4sf.png?sv=2026-02-06&spr=https&st=2026-10-28T15%3A58%3A36Z&se=2026-10-28T16%3A58%3A36Z&sr=c&sp=r&sig=QgzyLKtPjZ6ZFWcE26vGvHEhiZKx9IZgjcFPsLVQbbo%3D) ### Customizable HAZOP Study Deviation Template IMS SIS also has a built-in customizable HAZOP Study Deviation Template that can be modified to customer or project needs to suit any HAZOP study. Listed Safeguards show icons![](https://cdn.document360.io/e492a0e0-a4ba-4aca-8fc6-76b95f91fdf3/Images/Documentation/sis-release-2022.2-image-i4vp5jtu.png?sv=2026-02-06&spr=https&st=2026-10-28T15%3A58%3A36Z&se=2026-10-28T16%3A58%3A36Z&sr=c&sp=r&sig=QgzyLKtPjZ6ZFWcE26vGvHEhiZKx9IZgjcFPsLVQbbo%3D) ![](https://cdn.document360.io/e492a0e0-a4ba-4aca-8fc6-76b95f91fdf3/Images/Documentation/sis-release-2022.2-image-9vbevdc0.png?sv=2026-02-06&spr=https&st=2026-10-28T15%3A58%3A36Z&se=2026-10-28T16%3A58%3A36Z&sr=c&sp=r&sig=QgzyLKtPjZ6ZFWcE26vGvHEhiZKx9IZgjcFPsLVQbbo%3D)in the HAZOP to help the user keep an overview. ![Graphical user interface, text, application Description automatically generated](https://cdn.document360.io/e492a0e0-a4ba-4aca-8fc6-76b95f91fdf3/Images/Documentation/sis-release-2022.2-image-24m6yw89.png?sv=2026-02-06&spr=https&st=2026-10-28T15%3A58%3A36Z&se=2026-10-28T16%3A58%3A36Z&sr=c&sp=r&sig=QgzyLKtPjZ6ZFWcE26vGvHEhiZKx9IZgjcFPsLVQbbo%3D) Copy-Paste options include a Consequence "linked” paste option whereby the copied Consequence is linked to the source Consequence and Safeguards. This is especially useful when a Cause has an exact similar Consequence as a Cause already defined in the HAZOP study, saving time to not define it again. Linked Consequences, when transferred to a LOPA study, appear in the same LOPA diagram, and are indicated in the HAZOP by the symbol ![](https://cdn.document360.io/e492a0e0-a4ba-4aca-8fc6-76b95f91fdf3/Images/Documentation/sis-release-2022.2-image-mmkw9qxi.png?sv=2026-02-06&spr=https&st=2026-10-28T15%3A58%3A36Z&se=2026-10-28T16%3A58%3A36Z&sr=c&sp=r&sig=QgzyLKtPjZ6ZFWcE26vGvHEhiZKx9IZgjcFPsLVQbbo%3D). ![Graphical user interface, text, application Description automatically generated](https://cdn.document360.io/e492a0e0-a4ba-4aca-8fc6-76b95f91fdf3/Images/Documentation/sis-release-2022.2-image-tf4k88r8.png?sv=2026-02-06&spr=https&st=2026-10-28T15%3A58%3A36Z&se=2026-10-28T16%3A58%3A36Z&sr=c&sp=r&sig=QgzyLKtPjZ6ZFWcE26vGvHEhiZKx9IZgjcFPsLVQbbo%3D) Intelligent Text Recognition recognizes potential Equipment / FLOCs by underlining them with a green line. When users click on the underlined text, intelligent text recognition will show potentially matching Equipment and FLOCs in the IMS SIS database. When an Equipment / FLOC is selected, it will be listed on the applicable Consequence / Safeguard / Node card. ![Graphical user interface, text, application Description automatically generated](https://cdn.document360.io/e492a0e0-a4ba-4aca-8fc6-76b95f91fdf3/Images/Documentation/sis-release-2022.2-image-tn3w86ov.png?sv=2026-02-06&spr=https&st=2026-10-28T15%3A58%3A36Z&se=2026-10-28T16%3A58%3A36Z&sr=c&sp=r&sig=QgzyLKtPjZ6ZFWcE26vGvHEhiZKx9IZgjcFPsLVQbbo%3D) The HAZOP chair can select which scenarios to send to the LOPA module. By selecting the fold out menu on the Consequence in the pop-up window, the LOPA box can be checked. ![Graphical user interface, text, application Description automatically generated](https://cdn.document360.io/e492a0e0-a4ba-4aca-8fc6-76b95f91fdf3/Images/Documentation/sis-release-2022.2-image-4bo4olo0.png?sv=2026-02-06&spr=https&st=2026-10-28T15%3A58%3A36Z&se=2026-10-28T16%3A58%3A36Z&sr=c&sp=r&sig=QgzyLKtPjZ6ZFWcE26vGvHEhiZKx9IZgjcFPsLVQbbo%3D) This will show a "Create LOPA” icon in the HAZOP now that when clicked upon by the user will automatically create the LOPA for that scenario, saving precious time for any project. ![Graphical user interface, application, Teams Description automatically generated](https://cdn.document360.io/e492a0e0-a4ba-4aca-8fc6-76b95f91fdf3/Images/Documentation/sis-release-2022.2-image-9wbuq9mt.png?sv=2026-02-06&spr=https&st=2026-10-28T15%3A58%3A36Z&se=2026-10-28T16%3A58%3A36Z&sr=c&sp=r&sig=QgzyLKtPjZ6ZFWcE26vGvHEhiZKx9IZgjcFPsLVQbbo%3D) ### HAZOP Revisioning and Impact from MOCs and Projects Once a HAZOP is assigned to a production unit in IMS SIS and Final Approved, this becomes the “Evergreen” version of the HAZOP. A production Unit will have only one Evergreen HAZOP assigned to it. When changes are needed you would not typically create a new HAZOP, but rather a new MOC or Project version for the existing HAZOP. A MOC version is typically used for small plant changes, only affecting a few existing Nodes. A Project version is typically used for medium scale changes, affecting existing Nodes, as well as adding new Nodes. IMS SIS provides the user with the option to check out only those HAZOP Nodes of an Evergreen HAZOP that are relevant to a MOC or Project revision of the Evergreen HAZOP. There can be more than one MOC or Project revision active on a single HAZOP, but a Node can only be checked out once by a MOC or Project revision. After a MOC or Project is finished, the HAZOP revision of that MOC or Project can be merged into the Evergreen HAZOP again flawlessly, whereby the changes of the MOC or Project are reflected in a new revision of the Evergreen HAZOP. The MOC version and previous revision of the Approved Evergreen version will become inactive and will be archived. ## LOPA IMS SIS can be used for Layer of Protection Analyses (LOPAs). Like with all other IMS modules, there is a LOPA Main Screen and Details Page. The LOPA Main screen shows an overview grid, with a list of LOPAs. The LOPA Details Page is where the LOPA takes place. ### LOPA Module used as stand-alone module The LOPA module in IMS SIS for the most part works the same as in SIFpro v4 when used as a stand-alone module that has no link with the HAZOP module. The Interface is modernized but has the same functionality for determining whether a Hazardous scenario is Tolerable or not. ### LOPA Module used in Conjunction with HAZOP module The LOPAs in the LOPA module of IMS SIS can also be linked to a HAZOP study in the HAZOP module. When a LOPA is linked to a Hazardous scenario from a HAZOP study this shows in the LOPA window where the user can see what HAZOP and HAZOP Consequence is connected to the LOPA. The details from the HAZOP record, such as Causes and Safeguards, are shown in the LOPA diagram. ![Table Description automatically generated with medium confidence](https://cdn.document360.io/e492a0e0-a4ba-4aca-8fc6-76b95f91fdf3/Images/Documentation/sis-release-2022.2-image-29vqsho3.png?sv=2026-02-06&spr=https&st=2026-10-28T15%3A58%3A36Z&se=2026-10-28T16%3A58%3A36Z&sr=c&sp=r&sig=QgzyLKtPjZ6ZFWcE26vGvHEhiZKx9IZgjcFPsLVQbbo%3D) ### Synching between LOPA and HAZOP module The LOPAs in IMS SIS, when linked to a HAZOP study in IMS SIS, synchronize information back and forth. For example, when a Condition Modifier (e.g., Ignition Probability) is added to the LOPA in the above example, this Condition Modifier will also automatically be added as a Safeguard in the HAZOP Consequence that the LOPA is linked with. The other way around is also true. When a Safeguard is added or deleted in the HAZOP Consequence that is linked to a LOPA, this will also be added or deleted in the LOPA diagram. ### LOPAs containing a SIF as a Barrier When a Barrier has been identified as a SIF in a LOPA, users can select whether the SIF is an existing SIF or whether this is a new SIF record to be created. This can be done via the fold out menu on the SIF Barrier in the LOPA diagram. ![Graphical user interface Description automatically generated](https://cdn.document360.io/e492a0e0-a4ba-4aca-8fc6-76b95f91fdf3/Images/Documentation/sis-release-2022.2-image-wiw0j0t3.png?sv=2026-02-06&spr=https&st=2026-10-28T15%3A58%3A36Z&se=2026-10-28T16%3A58%3A36Z&sr=c&sp=r&sig=QgzyLKtPjZ6ZFWcE26vGvHEhiZKx9IZgjcFPsLVQbbo%3D) When a new SIF Analysis is selected, the calculated risk gap shown as the "Overall PFD” in the Assessment Summary is transferred to the SIF Barrier as the Target PFD for the SIF design verification calculations in the SIF Analysis. ![](https://cdn.document360.io/e492a0e0-a4ba-4aca-8fc6-76b95f91fdf3/Images/Documentation/sis-release-2022.2-image-wzmaq8dw.png?sv=2026-02-06&spr=https&st=2026-10-28T15%3A58%3A36Z&se=2026-10-28T16%3A58%3A36Z&sr=c&sp=r&sig=QgzyLKtPjZ6ZFWcE26vGvHEhiZKx9IZgjcFPsLVQbbo%3D) The SIF name (this can be user defined) is a hyperlink that will navigate users to the SIF Analysis. The LOPA and SIF Analysis are linked. When the Target PFD of the SIF is changed from the LOPA, the SIF Analysis (if Approved) will fall back to Draft. ## SIF Analysis The SIF Analysis module in IMS SIS works for a significant part similarly to SIFpro v4 where a SIF is built with Subsystems that are populated with Equipment (in SIFpro this was called “Tags”). The Interface is modernized but has the same functionality for determining Equipment Testing Intervals. The SIF Analysis is synced to the LOPA, as well has the HAZOP. It is possible the have multi scenario LOPAs for a SIF Analysis. All LOPAs will show on the SIF Analysis. The worst Target PFD will be used for the calculations. ![Graphical user interface, application Description automatically generated](https://cdn.document360.io/e492a0e0-a4ba-4aca-8fc6-76b95f91fdf3/Images/Documentation/sis-release-2022.2-image-it4kj29a.png?sv=2026-02-06&spr=https&st=2026-10-28T15%3A58%3A36Z&se=2026-10-28T16%3A58%3A36Z&sr=c&sp=r&sig=QgzyLKtPjZ6ZFWcE26vGvHEhiZKx9IZgjcFPsLVQbbo%3D) ## Settings With regards to IMS SIS specifically, the Settings Menu can be used to import SIS data, and also to define SIF Specific Data. ### Import Wizard In the Settings menu under "Import data” the Import Wizard can be found. Data such as HAZOPs, LOPA's, Equipment, etc. can be imported via Excel Templates that can be downloadable from the Import Wizard module. Existing old HAZOP reports, old LOPA's or bulk data for new Equipment can be uploaded into IMS SIS. ![Graphical user interface, application Description automatically generated](https://cdn.document360.io/e492a0e0-a4ba-4aca-8fc6-76b95f91fdf3/Images/Documentation/sis-release-2022.2-image-qb5iv0yi.png?sv=2026-02-06&spr=https&st=2026-10-28T15%3A58%3A36Z&se=2026-10-28T16%3A58%3A36Z&sr=c&sp=r&sig=QgzyLKtPjZ6ZFWcE26vGvHEhiZKx9IZgjcFPsLVQbbo%3D) ### SIS Specific Data All SIS specific data is also defined in the Settings Menu. The ECH enables users to add one or more Tests assigned to the Schedule. If there is a Checklist related to the Test, then the Checklist status will determine the final Status of the ECH. Corrective actions (Corrective Schedules) can be created from the ECH. When the ECH is Approved, the related Schedule is credited and automatically a new Schedule with a new next due date is created. ![Graphical user interface Description automatically generated](https://cdn.document360.io/e492a0e0-a4ba-4aca-8fc6-76b95f91fdf3/Images/Documentation/sis-release-2022.2-image-v7i2ks87.png?sv=2026-02-06&spr=https&st=2026-10-28T15%3A58%3A36Z&se=2026-10-28T16%3A58%3A36Z&sr=c&sp=r&sig=QgzyLKtPjZ6ZFWcE26vGvHEhiZKx9IZgjcFPsLVQbbo%3D) ## FLOC This works the same as for the other IMS products. ## Equipment An Equipment (in SIFPro this was called “Tag”) has all the elements of the “Tag” with a similar design, but with some added functionalities.
