Defining Degradation Mechanisms
Based on the information gathered to define the Corrosion Loop Process and Potential DMs, the DMs can now be identified and defined for the CL. (See also Step 2 Identify Threats and Barriers (Define the CL).)
To add a DM:
- Open the CL Details Page (see IMS Details Page).
- Scroll to the Degradation Management section.
- Click on the + button.
Note: All DMs can be added simultaneously, but DMs can also be added separately.
Depending on the DM characteristics a different DM card will be created:
Strategy Based: The Strategy Based DM card has as strategy section that shows the driving (strictest) strategy and the related Component (1). For this all the RBI analyses related to the DM in the current CL, are considered. If there are more Components with the same strategy, you can click on the three-dots to see the list of Components. Additionally, the card contains information about the Mitigated and Unmitigated CR and Morphology. These values can be entered by clicking on the fold-out bar (2).
Age-Related: The Age-Related DM card shows information about the Actual CR. Users can see the corrosion Circuit next to the CR. If there is more than one Circuit with the same Actual CR, you can click on the three-dots to see the list of all the Circuits. The three-dots will also show you the full name (when the name is too long to be displayed on the card).
Non-Age-Related: The Non-Age-Related DM card shows information about the driving (shortest) MII and the driving strategy, if applicable.
To further define a DM:
- Select the DM card.
- Click the fold-out bar.
- Specify the additional information: Mitigated CR, Unmitigated CR and Morphology.
- Click Save when done.
Note: When you Assigning Components to the CL and later Assigning DMs to the Components, additional information (if available for these Components) will be displayed on the DM cards: Actual CRs (if the Component is linked to a Circuit) and Strategy (driving RBI results, driving CCAM). The associated Circuits, Components and Equipment will also become available to access from the DM card: click on the three-dots (see below). Also, in some cases, Common barrier types will be suggested.
Adding Notes
To add notes see Adding Notes to DMs and Barriers.
Deleting DMs or Notes
To delete a DM or Note see Deleting DMs, Barriers, Notes.
Copying DMs to other CLs
It is possible to copy one or more DMs with associated Barriers to another CL. See Copying DMs and Barriers to other CLs.
Defining Barriers
You can now start Defining Barriers (and linking to IOWs). See also Step 2 Identify Threats and Barriers (Define the CL), to see how this fits into the Degradation Management Implementation process.
