Overview

The aim of IMS Offline is to use a mobile device, e.g. iPad, without internet connection, to capture inspection findings during field work.

A few once-off preparation actions are required before you can do this. See Preparing IMS Offline (once-off).

In Recording Inspections Offline the processes of recording an inspection with the IMS Offline App is explained (see the figure below).

The processes of recording an inspection with the IMS Offline App.

The steps are:

Step I: Select offline scope items

  • This must be done in IMS. You can either open it with the browser on your laptop, as you would normally do, or you can access IMS via the IMS Offline App.
  • You must be online in both cases.

Step II: Download the selected data on the mobile device.

  • Log into the IMS Offline App. The selected data will automatically be downloaded from the central IMS database to the local IMS database on your mobile device.
  • Your mobile device must be connected to the VPN.

Step III: Record an ECH in the field.

  • This is done with the IMS Offline App on your mobile device.
  • An internet connection is not required.

Step IV: Sync data with Central IMS database.

  • Tell IMS Offline to Finish offline work. The central IMS database, to which IMS connects, will then be updated with the data from the local IMS database, on your mobile device.
  • Your mobile device must be connected to the VPN.
Take Note
The ECH can only be Approved when you are online.

Only the capturing of the field work findings can happen offline. This is because the local IMS database on the mobile device is used. For the other steps, you must be online, since we need access to the central IMS database, which IMS uses, to download or upload the data.
