Article summary

Step 13 Barrier Verification - Execute, Analyze, Document:

Below the Step 13 Methodology is described. See also Software Step 13.

The Barrier status is determined by means of verification. The Barrier verification process has 3 elements:

  • Execute - Inspect / Monitor according to the Inspection/Corrosion Schedule and proactive monitoring plans.
  • Analyze the data (e.g., CR calculations).
  • Document the results (e.g., Equipment Condition Histories (ECHs), Calculation Summaries, CAIRs).

As soon as the verification data has been documented, the Barrier statuses will be updated in IMS, based on the built in Indicators.

Barrier status should be reviewed periodically, preferably quarterly, by the integrity team.  The Barrier statuses are recorded automatically in IMS, but only if the inspection / monitoring findings are properly document in IMS. As you continue to execute, analyze, and document your findings in IMS, Barrier status Indicators, shown in the Corrosion Loop Degradation Management section, i.e., the CMF data (see Step 2), will be updated. Most P- and C-type Barriers have Process Data Indicator. The Process Data Indicator status depends on the exceedance of the IOW variables, also defined in the CL (see Step 2).

For more information on Barrier Statuses and their Indicators see Barrier Status – Methodology.
