The fitness for service assessment, in general, is based on two approaches: - [ILI/IP data](/v410/docs/plss-ili-comparison) – standard assessment in the FFS module. - [Non-piggable assessment](/docs/plss-non-piggable-pipelines) – an assessment that caters to the case where inspection data is not from ILI/IP. We advise that the technical authority for the Pipeline and subsea asset class should ensure that the fitness for service assessment is: - Conducted for all types of defects and loading conditions above workmanship standards. - Duly record in an appropriate system, or in the element section of IMS PLSS, where the assessment is not calculated by IMS PLSS (for age-related degradation with a volumetric morphology and a plastic collapse limit state predominantly under internal pressure using level 1 assessment methods, i.e., a burst of corrosion defects). The relationship between the generalized workflow and IMS PLSS for the fitness for service assessment is defined in the Figures below. ![](https://cdn.document360.io/e492a0e0-a4ba-4aca-8fc6-76b95f91fdf3/Images/Documentation/Untitled (22).png?sv=2026-02-06&spr=https&st=2026-10-28T22%3A55%3A35Z&se=2026-10-28T23%3A55%3A35Z&sr=c&sp=r&sig=wV1vSsuQTF9QXXzOW%2FLPgOLcQrSnlg20uig8QJMzcJM%3D) Generalized workflow ![](https://cdn.document360.io/e492a0e0-a4ba-4aca-8fc6-76b95f91fdf3/Images/Documentation/image-1763722569408.png?sv=2026-02-06&spr=https&st=2026-10-28T22%3A55%3A35Z&se=2026-10-28T23%3A55%3A35Z&sr=c&sp=r&sig=wV1vSsuQTF9QXXzOW%2FLPgOLcQrSnlg20uig8QJMzcJM%3D) IMS PLSS process/modules: Fitness for service assessment.
