In such cases, FLOCs are created through the SAP interface. Use this procedure to create a new RCM Functional Location (FLOC) in IMS. FLOCs organize assets within the RCM hierarchy and act as parent objects for equipment. ## Before You Begin Before creating a FLOC, ensure the following: - The required Site, Plant, and Unit already exist. - You have permission to create RCM hierarchy objects. - You know which parent hierarchy level the FLOC belongs to. - You know the correct Location Type for the FLOC. ## Create a FLOC You can create new FLOCs: - manually - by importing multiple FLOCs. To create FLOCs in bulk, see the [data import](/v410/docs/importing-data-via-settings) feature. ### Creating FLOCs Manually To manually create a FLOC, do the following: 1. Click **FLOC** to go to the FLOC Main Screen (Grid List). ![](https://cdn.document360.io/e492a0e0-a4ba-4aca-8fc6-76b95f91fdf3/Images/Documentation/RCM_create_FLOC.png?sv=2026-02-06&spr=https&st=2026-10-28T22%3A59%3A37Z&se=2026-10-28T23%3A59%3A37Z&sr=c&sp=r&sig=46wqSu02hZkyGZqtVQnwrhYaWMZkvvAxYpHkAjCZuiY%3D) 1. Click **+** to create a new FLOC. 2. In the New FLOC window, enter the required information: - Select the **Parent ID**. - Enter the **FLOC ID**. - Select the appropriate **Location Type**. - Enter additional details, if required. For more information, see [Field Descriptions](/v410/docs/rcm-flocs#field-descriptions). ![](https://cdn.document360.io/e492a0e0-a4ba-4aca-8fc6-76b95f91fdf3/Images/Documentation/RCM_new_FLOC(2).png?sv=2026-02-06&spr=https&st=2026-10-28T22%3A59%3A37Z&se=2026-10-28T23%3A59%3A37Z&sr=c&sp=r&sig=46wqSu02hZkyGZqtVQnwrhYaWMZkvvAxYpHkAjCZuiY%3D) 1. Click **Save** when done. The new FLOC is created and the FLOC details page opens. > [!NOTE] > Note > > - When adding a new FLOC with invalid data, an invalid Unit location, or an invalid Plant location, a warning will be displayed, and the FLOC will not be saved. > - You can create a FLOC for an inactive Plant or inactive Unit. In this case, the new FLOC is also inactive. #### Field Descriptions Use the following table to understand the fields available when creating a FLOC. | **Field** | **Required** | **Description** | | --- | --- | --- | | Parent ID | Yes | ID of the parent Unit for the new FLOC. | | Hierarchy | Read only | Hierarchy path for the new FLOC: Site, Plant, Unit. | | FLOC ID | Yes | Name of the FLOC, often based on a standard naming convention. | | Location Type | Yes | Hierarchy Type of the new FLOC, such as PIPE-FLOC, AIRCOOLER-FLOC, or EXCHANGER-FLOC. | | CMMS Type | No | The selected CMMS Type, if applicable. | | System | No | Name of the System the FLOC is a part of. | | FLOC Description | No | Short description of the new FLOC. | | Perform RCM | No | Select to include the assets under this FLOC in RCM analysis. | | Startup date | No | Installation date of the FLOC. | | Active | No | Indicates whether the FLOC is active. | | ABC Indicator | No | Criticality level of the FLOC. | Reliability Centered Maintenance Integrity Management System Functional Location ## Related - [RCM FLOC Overview](/rcm-floc-overview.md) - [RCM FLOC Main Screen](/rcm-floc-main-screen.md) - [RCM FLOC Details Page](/rcm-floc-details-page.md)
