Take Note
CARMA (Corrosion And Risk Modelling Analytics) is an internal application developed by Shell to provide analytics with corrosion predictions and risk modeling for safety and operation optimization for Shell assets. IMS contains CML information that CARMA uses for corrosion prediction. Direct access to the IMS application automates data extraction.

CARMA shares the overall sensor corrosion, forecasted corrosion, forecasted wall thickness, and life of CML data with IMS from CARMA via Production API’s. CARMA and IMS shares the data across the applications for the better cause of improvising Safety and Operation optimization.

This overview will explain which CARMA data is shown in the IMS PEI and how it is used.
Warning
CARMA prediction data (WT - Wall Thickness and CR - Corrosion Rate) can be loaded and shown on TrendPlots (available on the Circuit Details Page, and the SIDAP Screen). In order to see the CARMA data in IMS, you first need to enable them. See Enabling and Configuring CARMA.

To see if a CML is connected to the CARMA service:

  • Navigate to the Circuit Details Page.
  • Open the CML Measurement History Tab.
  • Find the Has CARMA column.
  • The column will show "Yes" if the CML is connected to the CARMA service, otherwise, it will show "No".

Take Note
Currently, only Cenosco Support can configure if a CML "Has CARMA", i.e., this column is not editable.

You can also filter the CMLs that have CARMA. The Has CARMA filter is available on Circuit and CML Main Screens as well as on the Circuit's Details page in the CML Measurement History Tab.

Showing CARMA data in TrendPlot

To see the data from CARMA in the TrendPlot on the Circuit Details Page or SIDAP Screen:

  • Tick the Include CARMA checkbox.

The Include CARMA checkbox is shown on a Trend Plot (as seen on a Circuit Details Page): The following data from the CARMA service will be shown in the TrendPlot:

  • CARMA CR Predictions.
  • CARMA WT Predictions.
  • CARMA Custom CR (730 DAYS).
  • CARMA Current CR (1 DAY).
  • CARMA LongTerm CR (92 MTH).
  • CARMA ShortTerm CR (6 MTH).

A CR prediction is indicated with an orange line, while a WT prediction is indicated with a purple one. Data points are shown as diamond shapes while corrosion rates are shown as triangles:

TrendPlot shows the data from CARMA when the Include CARMA checkbox is ticked (as seen on the Circuit Details Page).

To understand which data from the CARMA service is represented by which symbol in the TrendPlot:

  • Click the TrendPlot Chart Legend button.
Click on the TrendPlot Chart Legend button to open the Legend.

The data shown in the TrendPlot is obtained for the default date range where the Start date is "Today - 2 years" and the End date is "Today's date". The last four fields currently display values for Today's date. To set a different End date see: Enabling and configuring CARMA.

Take Note
The data obtained from the CARMA service is updated once a day and is not real-time.
