# Special Emphasis - Overview

This online manual explains the Special Emphasis configuration in IMS: 

- The [Special Emphasis configuration](/v414/docs/special-emphasis-configuration) in terms of type and MII.
- How to [assign a Special Emphasis](/v414/docs/assigning-special-emphasis-to-a-circuit-or-inspection-schedule) to a Circuit or Inspection Schedule.

For Equipment groups Pipe and Pipe System, a [Circuit](/v414/docs/pei-circuits-overview) or (recurring) [Inspection Schedule](/v414/docs/defining-inspection-schedules) can be identified as one of the following:

- [Injection Points](/v414/docs/thermal-fatigue-at-mixing-and-injection-points) (IP)
- [Corrosive Deadlegs](/v414/docs/corrosive-deadlegs) (DL)
- [Unstable Deadlegs](/v414/docs/corrosive-deadlegs) (Unstable)
- Soil to Air

The classification chosen determines the risk based Maximum Inspection Interval (MII) allowed for the [Calculation Summary](/v414/docs/the-calculation-summary) (and [Corrosion Schedule](/v414/docs/defining-corrosion-schedules)) or [Inspection Schedule](/v414/docs/defining-inspection-schedules). A Special Emphasis thus provides a way to designate a risk based Maximum Inspection Interval (MII) for a corrosion [Circuit](/v414/docs/pei-circuits-overview) or an [Inspection Schedule](/v414/docs/defining-inspection-schedules).

(The aim of Special Emphasis was to configure the MII for specific Special Emphasis Equipment as such that it meets the specific site requirements. The Special Emphasis can be [configured](/v414/docs/special-emphasis-configuration) differently for each site.)
