Confidence, together with Criticality ([Step 9](/v414/docs/step-9-review-overall-criticality-1)) and RL ([Step 6](/v414/docs/step-6-estimate-remaining-functional-life-ar-dms-and-cui-1)), is used to determine the Maximum Inspection Interval (MII) and Inspection Strategy (IS) ([Step 11](/v414/docs/step-11-review-the-results-nid-mii-is-inspection-effectiveness)). For AR DMs and some NAR DMs, a better Confidence will mean longer inspection intervals, since the IF increases. For NAR DMs, a high Confidence reduces the monitoring requirements. Note: Confidence does not apply to all [DMs](/v414/docs/guidance-per-degradation-mechanism-implementation-and-interpretation) and [Special Emphasis Components](/v414/docs/special-emphasis-components). See [Methodology Step 10](/v414/docs/methodology-step-10) and [Software Step 10](/v414/docs/software-step-10).
