# Step 3 Start S-RBI Analysis and Assign DMs to Components

When the CL is defined ([Step 1](/v414/docs/step-1-define-the-asset) and [Step 2](/v414/docs/step-2-identify-threats-and-barriers-define-the-cl-1)), an S-RBI Analysis must be started. The first step of an S-RBI Analysis is to assign the appropriate Degradation Mechanisms to each Component, since the S-RBI Analysis takes place on Component level, per Degradation Mechanism.
