The corrosiveness of sulphuric acid depends primarily on acid concentration and temperature. In addition, velocity and the presence of impurities in the acid (e.g., oxygenates and dissolved iron) can have a significant impact on corrosion. The corrosion reaction between steel and strong sulphuric acid generates ferrous ions (Fe2+).
