This section gives **guidance** for Underground Piping. ## Define Asset – Step 1 See [Step 1](/v414/docs/step-1-define-the-asset). Underground piping can be modelled with Component Type: "Piping UG". ## Assign DMs to Component – Step 3 See [Step 3](/v414/docs/step-3-start-rbi-analysis-and-assign-dms-to-the-component-1). The applicable Degradation Mechanism is: "Soil Corrosion (AR)". ## RL – Step 6 & Step 11 See [Step 6](/v414/docs/step-6-estimate-remaining-functional-life-ar-dms-and-cui-1) and [Step 11](/v414/docs/step-11-review-the-results-nid-mii-is-inspection-effectiveness). You can use the soil corrosion [calculator](/v414/docs/calculators). ## IF – Step 11 See [Step 11](/v414/docs/step-11-review-the-results-nid-mii-is-inspection-effectiveness). The Interval Factor is generated from the “full life” table. ## Barrier Verification – Step 12 & Step 13 See [Step 12](/v414/docs/step-12-assign-s-rbi-results-to-inspectioncorrosion-schedules-andor-update-monitoring-plan) and [Step 13](/v414/docs/step-13-barrier-verification-execute-analyze-document). Some of the NDE techniques to inspect these areas are smart pigging and guided wave technology.
