Article summary

This section of the Handbook explains how to create and manage Measurements Sets in IMS.

Measurement sets (MSET) are used to record wall thickness data measurements associated with a CML in IMS. It is important to keep in mind regarding MSETs:

  • Measured wall thicknesses are then used in completing IMS’s corrosion rate calculations.

  • MSETs can contain multiple circuits, but can only be created for on piece of Equipment.

Measurement Set Grid

The Measurement Sets Grid is displayed on the Circuit Details Page, as shown below:

Measurement Set Grid List

The Measurement Set grid shows all MSETs in Circuit and the current state of the MSET. The table below explains the data grid.

Note: It is possible to include multiple Circuits in a MSET. The status of a MSET can only be set to Completed when all Circuits included in the MSET have been calculated. Once calculated, the status of the MSET will be automatically set to Completed.

Quick Measurement Set Creation

To quickly create a Measurement Set with all Active CMLs:

  • Select the desired Equipment, Circuit, or CML from the Equipment, Circuit, or CML Main Grids.

  • Click the Create Measurement Set iconin the Toolbar.

OR

  • Click the Create Measurement Set icon on the respective Details Pages.

A new Measurement Set will be created which includes all Active CMLs associated with the Equipment, or Circuit, and all selected CMLs.

Creating Measurement Sets (All Methods)

Measurement Sets can be created from the Equipment, Circuit, and CML Main Grids, as well as directly from the respective Details pages as shown in the table below.

Configuring Measurement Sets

To configure Measurement Sets:

From the Circuit/CML Main Grid:

  • Select the Circuit or CML and click in the toolbar.

From the Equipment/Circuit Details Page:

  • Click in the Details Page header or in the Measurement Set Grid toolbar.

The Measurement Set Configurator will open displaying the Measurement Sets associated with the current Equipment. The Measurement Set Configurator contains two main sections:

  • Details: Contains a list of MSETs associated with the current Equipment, and a list of the Circuits associated with the current Equipment.

  • CML Measurement Set Selection: Displays a list of CMLs in the Circuit in the MSET selected in the Details section at the top. This section also displays a calculated PERF value for the selected CMLs in the Circuit. See PEI Corrosion Calcs - Overview to learn more about PERF and other corrosion calculation details.

Measurement Set Configurator.

To configure a Measurement Set:

  • Select the MSET from the Details Grid.

  • Click the Edit icon to the left of it.

Click Edit to Configure the MSET.

The MSET Details will be displayed.

MSET Details.

  • Enter the desired values for Description, Measurement Set Status, Circuit, and Technician.

  • Click Save to save any changes.

Next, use the tabs to configure the remaining options to establish MSET Criteria, review Trendplots and ISOs, Assign Inspection Methods to the individual CMLs, and to Generate MSET Exports. Click Previous or Next to navigate to adjacent tabs, and Apply to save any changes.

Configure MSET Options Using the Tabs.

Measurement Set Status

MSETs are assigned a Status based on what actions have been completed on the MSET. The meaning of the Statuses, and how they are assigned is described in the table below.

Measurement Set Statuses

Status

Description

Condition

Draft

MSET has been created but not completed.

Measurement data can be added or edited.

Initial status upon creation.

Ready for Export

User-Selected.

User selected in MSET configurator or when exporting multiple MSETs.

Export Printed

CMLs have been assigned and exported.

Measurement data can be added or edited.

Ready for Import

User-Selected.

User selected in MSET configurator or when exporting multiple MSETs.

Imported

Measurement Data has been imported but not calculated.

Completed

The status of a Measurement Set can only be set to Completed when all Circuits included in the MSET have been calculated.

Measurement data cannot be added or edited.

Automatically set when all of the Circuits in the MSET have been calculated.

User Note

When a Measurement Set is first created, the Status assigned to it is Draft. The Status can thereafter be changed, either by the User or automatically by IMS (depending on what actions have been completed on the MSET), up until all Circuit calculations have been completed on the MSET.

At that point, IMS will set the Status to Completed.

Completing Measurement Sets

Manual Wall Thickness Entry

To manually enter Wall Thickness Measurements:

  • Open the Measurement Set by clicking on its ID hyperlink.

Open an MSET.

  • Complete all fields, e.g., Quality Indicator, for each WT measurement.

  • Click the Save button to save the MSET.

  • Click the Calculate button to calculate the MSET.
