Closing an Anomaly

Prev Next

This Handbook page describes how to Close an Anomaly in IMS.

Closing an Anomaly

To Close an Anomaly:

  1. Open the Anomaly Details Page for your desired Anomaly.

  2. In the Details section, click Edit.

  3. Set the Anomaly Status field to an inactive status (e.g. Closed or Not Anomalous).

  4. Click Save.

Once saved, the Anomaly becomes inactive. The Closed on date and Closure Time (Days) fields are automatically populated and shown as read-only on the Details Page, the Main Screen grid, and the Equipment Anomaly sub-form.

The Closure Time values are used to feed the Anomaly Insights Dashboard’s average closure time tile.

Notes

  • Anomaly Closure will be rejected if no Identified Date has been set on the Anomaly.

  • The Closed on and Closure Times are system-managed and cannot be set by the user.

  • Anomalies created prior to the release of the Closed on and Closure Times feature (PLSS) will remain blank for these fields after closure.

Reopening and Reclosing

To reopen a closed Anomaly, set its Anomaly Status back to an active status (e.g. Open). Both the Closed on and Closure Time fields clear automatically.

If the Anomaly is subsequently reclosed, the Closure Time is recalculated from the original Identified Date - not from the reopen date.

Recurring Monitoring and Assessment Carry-Forward

Where the Anomaly Response is Monitor, a recurring Inspection Schedule is typically used so the Anomaly is re-presented automatically at the next interval. When that recurring Schedule is credited with a new ECH:

  • IMS automatically clones the latest Assessment for each Anomaly linked to the credited Schedule onto the newly generated next-cycle Schedule.

  • The clone carries over the Anomaly Status, Anomaly Response, description, risk matrix selections (unmitigated and mitigated), risk notes, and linked Action Item - but resets the revision number and clears the Reviewed By / Reviewed Date fields, since it becomes a new revision awaiting its own review.

This means routine (still open, still Monitor) cases do not need to be re-entered from scratch at every cycle. Only genuinely new information needs to be added.

Adding Findings to a Closed Anomaly

When a new Finding or Observation is added to a Closed Anomaly, the Anomaly is re-opened.
