Article summary

Take note
There are three ways to deactivate Object Types (Unit / FLOC / Equipment / Corrosion Loop / Circuit / Component / ECH / Schedule) in IMS:
  • Manually,
  • In bulk,
  • Unit Deactivation.

When deactivating an Object Type in IMS, all its child objects will be deactivated as well. Consider the possibility that FLOCs that are shared with another discipline may be deactivated as part of the process. If this is the case, please consult the responsible Focal points of that discipline before continuing. This is valid for all three methods of deactivating Object types which will be explained in this article.

Manually Deactivating Object Types

This way of deactivating Object types will require you to deactivate them one by one. To manually deactivate a piece of Equipment, and its child objects (Components, Schedules, ECHs):

  • Navigate to the Details page of the Equipment you would like to deactivate.
  • In the Details section, click Edit.
  • Uncheck the Active checkbox.
Uncheck Active Checkbox to deactivate the Equipment.
  • Click Save.

The following message will appear asking you if you also want to deactivate the FLOC.

Select Yes or No to indicate whether you wish to deactivate or keep the FLOC active.

Example:

In the example below, the Equipment "mra eq 8" had the active Schedule "DFLT00247553" connected to it.

Active Schedule on the Equipment before deactivating the Equipment.

After deactivating the Equipment "mra eq 8", the Schedule "DFLT00247553" got deactivated as well.

Inactive Schedule on the Equipment after deactivating the Equipment.

Deactivating Object Types in Bulk

When more than one Object type needs to be made Inactive, it can be done using the Export for Import option. In the images below, how to deactivate Objects of the type Equipment is shown.

  • Use the Scope bar to select one or more Units that contain the Object type you want to deactivate.
  • Tick the checkbox on the left of the applicable Object type.
  • Click the Export button.
After selecting the Scope, select the Equipment to deactivate and click the Export button.
  • Click the Export button next.
  • Open the Excel file that has been downloaded.
  • Find the column named Active.
  • Use the dropdown arrow to change the Status of the Objects from "Active" to "Inactive".
Click on the dropdown arrow in the active column to change the status of the Object from Active to Inactive.
  • Save the file to your computer.
  • Go back to IMS.
  • Click the Import button.
  • Make sure that the accurate import type is selected (in this case "Equipment") and click Browse.
Select the import type "Equipment" and click Browse.
  • Click Next a couple of times until you get to Step 5 out of 5.
  • Click Show entities to see the updated Objects.

For more about importing data see Importing Data via Settings.

Unit Deactivation

In IMS, it is possible to deactivate a whole Unit with all its child Objects.

Warning
Although this is the quickest method, it should be avoided in cases where a large scope of Equipment is involved.

To deactivate a Unit:

  • Click Settings.
  • Under Settings\Company\Toplevel\CMMS Hierarchy select the Site, Plant, and Unit.
  • Open the Details Tab.
Select the Unit and open the Details Tab.
  • Click Edit.
  • Uncheck the Active checkbox.

A message will appear asking you if you want to deactivate associated FLOCs and Corrosion Loops.

  • Click OK.
