Article summary

Take note

The ILI Comparison module is an integral component of the IMS PLSS, designed to analyze Defects identified during various In-Line Inspection (ILI) runs. This module matches Defects from two distinct ILI Inspections and calculates the Corrosion Rates between them.

To access the ILI Comparison module, navigate to the Details page of the Equipment for Pipeline, Flowline, or Pipeline Jumper Equipment groups or any PLSS-specific modules and click the ILI Comparison button in the header.

Click on the ILI Comparison button to open the ILI Comparison Module.

The ILI Comparison module is comprised of 4 panes:

  • Left upper panel: input Girth Weld data and parameter settings for the scenario assessment.

  • Right upper panel: dealing with matching Girth Welds between the two runs.

  • Left lower corner: the results of matching the Defects in a graphical presentation.

  • Right lower corner: the results matching the Defects in tabular form.

ILI Comparison Workflow

To compare two In-Line Runs, the following steps are necessary:

  1. Add the Inspection data for the ILI runs in the Assessment tab of the FFS module.

  2. Import the ILI Defect data for the ILI runs in module FFS.

  3. Import Girth Weld data in module ILI Comparison.

  4. Select the two ILI runs for which the Defects have to be compared.

  5. Validate that the Girth Weld match between the two runs is correct.

  6. If needed, manually change the Girth Weld match.

  7. Validate that the Defects match between the two runs is correct.

  8. If needed, manually change the Defect match.

  9. Investigate Corrosion Rates.

Click on the Import button.

  • Click Browse and select the file from your computer with the GirthWelds data.

  • Click Next a few times.

  • Click Done.

Calculating Defect Matching Lateral Growth and Corrosion Rates

Once you have defined the Scenario and imported the Girth Weld data, you can proceed to calculate whether the Defects match, as well as their Lateral Growth and Corrosion Rates.

  • Navigate to the Scenario tab.

  • Click Calculate.

Click Calculate.

The results of the calculation will be shown in the remaining three panes.
