Article summary

Take note

This overview will explain how to use and interpret the data in the IMS PLSS PL Survey module.

The IMS PLSS PL Survey Module is a tool that allows you to enter and manage your Depth of Cover (DoC) data for Buried Pipelines ensuring they are adequately covered to prevent external corrosion and other forms. To access this module, navigate to the Equipment Details page for Pipeline, Flowline, or Pipeline Jumper Equipment groups and click the Survey button in the header.

Depth of Cover

The Depth of Cover section consists of By DOC ID and By Location tabs on the left and a graph on the right. The two tabs allow you to view and input Depth of Cover data organized by either DOC ID or Location. The graph provides a visual representation of depth measurements compared to design specifications.

By DOC ID

The first tab, By DOC ID, allows you to input and view the Depth of Cover data.  This tab includes the following information:

Column Name

Description

Survey date

The date of the Survey where the Depth of Cover was measured

DOC ID

The ID of the Inspection Location where the Depth of Cover was measured.

Location

The location on the Pipeline where the depth of Cover was measured.

Design DOC

The Depth of Cover at which the Pipeline Section was installed.

Measured

The Measured Depth of Cover.

Difference

The difference between the measured Depth of Cover and the Design DOC.

Doc Data in the By DOC ID tab.

By Location

The By Location tab displays the same data as the By DOC ID tab, listing the depth of Cover information by Location i.e. Kilometer Point (KP) instead of by DOC ID.

Graph

The accompanying graph dynamically adjusts based on the selected tab. It provides a visual comparison between the measured Depth of Cover values from various Survey Dates and the original Design DOC values.

Adding Dept of Cover Data

To add the DoC into the Survey module you will need to:

  1. Define DoC in the Inspection Location on the Equipment Details Page. This step is mandatory if DoC will be recorded on a Location basis, but not if data is per Kilometer Point (KP).

  2. Set the Design DoC in the 3PD tab.

  3. Import data via an ECH.

  4. Review data in the Survey module.

Step 1:  Add DoCs to the Inspection Locations

To Add Docs:

  • Navigate to the applicable Equipment Details Page.

  • Add Inspection Locations of the Type “Depth of Cover”.

Step 2:  Define the Design Depth of Cover

To define the Design Depth of Cover (Design DoC):

  • On the Equipment Details page, navigate to the Sectioning section.

  • Click the 3PD.

  • In the Depth of Cover grid, add Pipeline Section(s) and specify the Design DOC.

Example

An example is given below where three Sections over the total length of the Pipeline were defined along with their respective Design DOC.

  • In the pop-up window, click on the Magnifier Glass to search for the DOC ID.

  • Select the applicable Inspection Location from the grid.

  • Click OK.

  • The Location of the DOC ID will be prefilled.

  • Enter the value of the Measured Depth of Cover.

  • Click Save.

Click Save to Save the entered data.

Note: You can also enter the Measured Depth of Cover without providing the DOC ID. However, in this case, it is essential to complete the Location field. The data will then be displayed in the By Location tab.

  • Final Approve the ECH.

Step 4:  Review Data in the Survey module

The data you entered via ECH are now displayed in the Survey module where you can see the difference between the Measured DOC and the Design DOC per DOC ID or Location.

To review the data, return to the Survey module.
