IMS Versioning Change
Starting in 2025, IMS adopted an industry-standard semantic versioning approach. This change aims to enhance compatibility with various services (IMS4Field, CMMS interfaces, SSO, etc.) and aligns with the new release cycle.
Why IMS 4.0.0? IMS has been in use for 10 years since its launch as version 3.0 in 2014. With the major revamp introduced in the recent 2024.3 release, it makes sense for the next version to be designated as 4.0.0.
Benefits
The benefits of the new versioning approach include:
Shifting focus to new functionalities and bug fixes rather than the version number itself.
Clear and structured versioning that highlights compatibility and breaking changes.
A systematic approach to versioning:
MAJOR version for incompatible API changes.
MINOR version for new, backward-compatible functionality.
PATCH version for backward-compatible bug fixes.
