A Safety Requirements Specification (SRS) Report (see IEC Compliance) can be generated per Unit for all SIFs with a Final Approved SIF Analysis. This can be done from any IMS SIS Main Screen or Details Page.
Generating the SRS Report from a Main Screen
To generate the SRS Report from a Main Screen:
- Use the scoping bar to filter for the desired Unit. Select only one Unit. Note: If multiple Units are selected, the report will not be generated, instead an error message will show.
- Click the Report button.
- Check SRS Report.
- Click Generate as Word or Generate as PDF.
- A DRAFT report will be generated.
- The additional required information should then be manually filled by the project team members outside of IMS.
- The scoping bar must be filtered for only one Unit. If the scoping bar filter includes multiple Units, the report will not be generated, instead an error message will show.
- The report will include an SRS for each SIF in the selected Unit, with a current (active) Final Approved SIF Analysis.
- If no SIF Analysis in the Unit is Final Approved then the report will only include the general sections.
Generating the SRS report from a Details Pages
To generate the SRS Report from a Details Page:
- Click the Report button.
- Check SRS Report.
- Click Generate as Word or Generate as PDF.
- A DRAFT report will be generated.
- The additional required information should then be manually filled by the project team members outside of IMS.
- The SRS report will be generated for the parent Unit of the item for which you are viewing the Details Page.
- The report will include an SRS for each SIF in the Unit, with a current (active) Final Approved SIF Analysis.
- If no SIF Analysis in the Unit is Final Approved then the report will only include the general sections.
- Therefore, when you generate the SRS Report from the Details Page of a SIF Analysis that is NOT Final Approved, the SRS report will not include that SIF's SRS, but the SRS of the other SIFs in the Unit with Final Approved SIF Analyses will still be included.
What is included in the SRS Report
The SRS Report includes the outcomes of:
- Hazards & risk analysis
- SIL allocation
- SIF design approach
- Monitoring approach of the SIF
- Process variable validation
- Dangerous state plan
- And other input documentation to the SIF design
The printed SRS Report consists of two parts:
- General SIS Requirements sections.
- Specific SIS Requirements sections.
The General SIS sections of the SRS report are blank when exported from IMS and should be manually filled in by project team members outside of IMS. IMS automatically fills the report with the SIF-specific data.
Only SIFs with Final Approved SIF Analyses included
The specific SIS Requirements sections will include an SRS for each SIF in the selected Unit, with a current (active) Final Approved SIF Analysis. The SRS report will not include SIFs with the current (active) SIF Analysis in DRAFT / Writer Approved / Level 1 Approved.
In the image below we show a SIF's Revision History. The SIF of this SIF Analysis will not be included in the SRS report, as the current (active) version is in Draft.
In the near future this will change to:
The SRS report will include both:
- SIFs with the current (active) Final Approved SIF Analysis, AND
- SIFs with a previously Final Approved SIF Analysis version (if more than one Final Approved SIF Analysis version is available then the latest version will be included).
Thus in future the SIF of the SIF Analysis, shown in the image above, will be included in the SRS report, as it has a previously Final Approved version.
Customizing the SRS Report
It is possible to generate only specific sections of the report. To do so:
- Click the Report button.
- On the Custom reports tab, click the Edit button. Note: You need appropriate privileges to edit a report.
Alternatively go to the Reports tab and select the desired sections from the dropdown.
Background - IEC Compliance
IEC 61511 clause 10 outlines the SRS for a given Safety Instrumented System (SIS). To comply with this IEC standard, it is a best practice to provide an SRS Report to the SIF Designer. During the Safety Lifecycle, the SRS is a key document that serves as a contractual agreement between two companies. It is the master document that communicates to the SIF designer the safety requirements that were defined in the previous risk assessments. The SRS Report is a document that the engineer, plant operator, maintenance personnel, and application programmer should mutually understand.
