Syncing HAZOPs with connected LOPAs
When a LOPA has been created and linked to a Consequence in a HAZOP, then the following will be synced:
- The Consequence and highest Risk (Severity*Likelihood) among the associated Consequence categories.
- The associated Cause(s) (HAZOP) with Initiating Event(s) (LOPA).
- The associated Existing safeguards (HAZOP) with Barriers (LOPA).
- The ALARP notes.
- The associated Severity values for the Consequence categories are initially also copied to the LOPA. (Tolerability Criteria values shown in LOPA (Assessment Summary) result from these Severity values.) However, these Severities are not kept in sync if changes happen on the LOPA / HAZOP.
Synced Barriers and Existing safeguards
The Barriers and Existing safeguards will then be synced in the following way:
When HAZOP and LOPA in Draft
The Barriers and Existing safeguards will be synced while the HAZOP and LOPA are both in Draft. Thus, when changes are made in the HAZOP’s Existing safeguards, they will automatically be applied to the LOPA’s Barriers and vice versa. Also, when a new Existing safeguard is added to the Consequence in the HAZOP, a Barrier will automatically be added in the LOPA as well, and vice versa.
When the HAZOP is Approved, but the LOPA is in Draft
When the LOPA is in Draft (or put back in Draft) and Barriers are changed, then the HAZOP will show a warning and out of sync Existing safeguards will be indicated with. You can then put the HAZOP back into Draft and sync the elements individually with, or all at once with
When the LOPA is Approved, but the HAZOP is in Draft
When the HAZOP is in Draft (or put back in Draft), the LOPA will show a waning and out of sync Barriers will be indicated with. You can then put the LOPA back in Draft and Sync with the HAZOP.
The HAZOP is the Master
This means you can normally ONLY delete an Exiting Safeguard from the HAZOP and the Barrier will then be deleted in the LOPA. Only when the HAZOP and LOPA is not Synced can a Barrier be deleted from the LOPA, i.e., when the LOPA is put back in Draft while the HAZOP remains Approved.
Synced Initiating Events and Causes
Similar to how Barriers and Existing Safeguards are synced, the Initiating Events and Causes will also be synced.
Synced ALARP notes
Similar to how Barriers and Existing Safeguards are synced, the ALARP notes will also be synced.
Synced Consequences
The Consequence and its highest Risk (Severity*Likelihood) among the associated Consequence categories will be synced to the Consequence of failure on demand in the LOPA. However the associated Severities for the Consequence categories are initially copied from the HAZOP, but not synced. Tolerability Criteria (TC) values shown in LOPA (Assessment Summary) result from these Severity values.
