This article explains how the RSL Assign Wizard matches a Reliability Strategy Library (RSL) to a Tag (Equipment or FLOC), and what to do when no suitable RSL is found. It assumes familiarity with Straight and Skewed Hierarchies — see RSL basics for background.
Assigning an RSL via the Wizard
To assign an RSL to a Tag, use Bulk Assign. Alternatively, on the FLOC Details page, go to the RCM Analysis section and click the Plus button. This opens the RSL Assign Wizard.

In a Straight Hierarchy — where Location type, Equipment group, and CMMS type all match — the wizard finds a suitable RSL automatically, as shown above. See RSL basics for the difference between Straight and Skewed Hierarchies.
Steps to assign an RSL to a Tag
Go to the FLOC or Equipment Main Screen grid.
Select the Tag you want to assign the RSL to.
Click Bulk Assign.
Select the applicable System.
Click NEXT.
Select the applicable Functional Failure.
Click NEXT.
Confirm the RSL Failure Modes tab is selected.
Search for the applicable RSL.
Select the applicable Failure Modes.
Click NEXT.
On the Label tab, click NEXT.
On the Preview tab, click ASSIGN.
On the Main Screen, locate the Tag and confirm that the expected Failure Modes and Tasks have been assigned. You may need to refresh the screen.
Suitable RSL Not Showing
If the hierarchy is Skewed, the wizard won't find a suitable RSL.
For example:
When assigning an RSL to the 10PCV9902a-eq, the wizard finds no match, because the Tag’s Location type matches neither its Equipment group nor its CMMS type.
Using the Filter in the RSL Assign Wizard
The wizard's filter can be extended with the Tag's Location type, Equipment group, and CMMS type:

Removing the Location type (TANK-FLOC) and the Equipment group (CONTROL VALVE) filters surfaces the RSLs available for E_MOT_LV:

Caution
Using the filter gives you more freedom to assign an RSL, but IMS no longer verifies the match for you. Confirm that the RSL you select actually matches the Tag.
Care Strategy RSL assignment
For Care Strategy RSL assignment, you can disable the default filters entirely. In the example below, the Location type and Equipment group filters are off, and only the CMMS type filter is active, surfacing the Care Strategy Library needed:

For the full Care Strategy assignment workflow — Main, Additional, and Mandatory Strategies, and the bulk assignment wizard — see Care Strategies on RSLs.
Changing the RSL’s Applicable CMMS Type
If no suitable RSL appears and adjusting the filter doesn't resolve it, you can instead update which CMMS types (also called Equipment Types) the RSL applies to:
Go to the RSL Details Page.
For the applicable Failure Mode, click Edit.

Click the Add button.

Click the All Types tab.

Select the Relevant CMMS Type.
Click OK.
Click Save.
