IMS4Field is a lite version of the Integrity Management System (IMS) for recording the results of inspections, maintenance, and tests in the field. You record your findings in Dynamic Forms Checklists in Equipment Condition Histories (ECHs). One of the main advantages of IMS4Field is that you can use it with or without a reliable internet connection, so you can keep working at sites where connectivity is poor.
IMS4Field is a web-based application. You open it in your device's web browser on your phone, tablet, or laptop, and you don't need to download a dedicated app. If you prefer to use it like a native app, you can add it to your device's home screen.
IMS4Field uses the same database and the same user permissions as IMS, so the same Equipment, Schedule, and Condition History data is available in both applications.
Planners assign Schedules to inspectors in IMS, inspectors record their findings in IMS4Field, and the ECHs are approved through your usual approval workflow. See IMS4Field Recommended Business Process for the full process.

Local Mode and Online Mode
IMS4Field works in one of two modes:
IMS4Field stores the data you collect on your device in Local Mode (recording the results of inspections, maintenance, and tests in the field) and synchronizes it with IMS when a network connection is available. Download your Schedules and Checklists while you are connected, before you go to an area with no signal.
Online Mode keeps IMS4Field continuously connected to the IMS server, so you and other users can see each other's changes in near-real time. You must enable it manually, and it needs a reliable network connection.
Some functions, such as approving ECHs, need a network connection even in Local Mode. See Using IMS4Field in Local Mode for the full list.
