After defining the Functional Failures for a System, enter the Failure Modes for the prioritized Equipment that may cause each Functional Failure. These Failure Modes provide the basis for the subsequent RCM analysis.
This article describes how to assign Failure Modes to Equipment.
Assigning Failure Modes to Equipment
The System Details page is the primary location to connect Failure Modes (FMs) to Equipment for further analysis.
Note
Failure Modes can also be added and removed in the RCM Analysis grid. Here, you can only see Equipment with at least one FM (attached via the Systems page).
To connect a Failure Mode to an Equipment:
In the Functions section of the System details page, select the Tag(s) belonging to a Functional Failure.
Click the Assign Failure Modes to selected Tags button.

Once the Add Failure Mode window opens, assign a Failure Mode in one of the following ways:
Assign RSL Failure Modes.
Assign System Failure Modes.

Assigning Reliability Strategy Library Failure Modes
Use the RSL Failure Modes window to assign reliability strategy libraries starting with the appropriate Failure Modes, which contain a generic analysis with a Failure Mode, an ETBF value, criticality, suggested tasks, ETBC, and MEI.
The assigned library can be inherited from the original or copied from the original. When the library is inherited, the created analyses are flagged as out of sync, so that you can revisit them and decide whether to update. When copied, the created analyses will not be updated.
To assign an RSL Failure Mode:
Click RSL Failure Modes.
Select the appropriate Failure Mode.
Click Next. Optionally, add a Label if you want to use it to filter information later.
Click Next.
Click Assign.
Because the Reliability Strategy Library contains generic analyses, the RCM facilitator is responsible for evaluating and validating the appropriateness of the selected data from the library, as well as making adjustments to achieve the desired level of accuracy.

For a walkthrough, watch Assign FM to Equipment Episode 6.
Assigning System Failure Modes
Use the System Failure Modes window to add new Failure Modes or assign to existing Failure Modes. It takes Equipment knowledge and RCM knowledge to decide which Failure Modes are credible for an Equipment in the operating context.
To assign an System Failure Mode:
Click System Failure Mode.
Select the appropriate Failure Mode or create a new Failure Mode.
Click Next. Optionally, add a Label if you want to use it to filter information later.
Click Next.
Click Assign.
Create a New Failure Mode
To add a new FM to the System, do the following:
Click Create new Failure Mode.
Select the appropriate CMMS Type.
Enter Failure Mode.
Optionally, add a Description.
Select Type.
Select Is Internal.
Click Save.

Moving Tags to Another System
Tags may sometimes be assigned to a system that is no longer appropriate. Because a Tag can belong to only one System, moving it to a different System may require several steps.
For a small number of Tags, you can move the analyses manually. For instructions, see Move analyses to another System. The advantage of this method is that the associated prioritization data is transferred together with the analyses.
A manual transfer can be performed by creating temporary "dummy" Tags to hold the analyses while the FLOC or Equipment is moved to the target System.
Alternatively, prioritization data can be transferred separately by exporting it using the prioritization data query and importing it with the System Equipment import. For more information, see E08: Floc/Eq Priority data.
